The consultation period for the proposed legislation on the prioritisation of grid capacity and appropriate grid connection ran from 1–28 July 2026. DDI submitted its consultation response on 28 July 2026, following dialogue with and input from our members.
DDI supports the need to prioritise scarce grid capacity. However, the model must be based on objective, transparent and technology-neutral criteria rather than sector classification alone.
Our key recommendations include:
- Assessing projects based on maturity, grid compatibility and documented contributions to the energy system
- Ensuring clear and predictable conditions for existing investments and phased developments
- Establishing an operational definition of critical societal functions
- Recognising contributions such as flexibility, energy storage, waste heat reuse and long-term renewable energy agreements
- Combining prioritisation with measures that expand capacity and improve the use of the existing grid
DDI also recommends that data centers should not automatically be placed in the lowest priority category simply because of their sector. Projects with comparable grid impacts should be assessed according to the same criteria.
The consultation response will now form part of the Ministry’s continued preparation of the proposed legislation. DDI will remain actively engaged in the process and in the broader dialogue on Denmark’s future digital and energy infrastructure.
