Behind the cloud: Nordic Data Center Week returns across the Nordics

We use digital services every day, but most of us rarely think about where our data is stored or what it takes to keep cloud services, public systems and artificial intelligence running. Nordic Data Center Week returns to make that infrastructure more visible - and to encourage an open conversation about its role in society.

Now in its third year, Nordic Data Center Week is a joint initiative from the five Nordic data center industry associations. Throughout the week, data centers, companies, municipalities and educational institutions will host school visits, open houses, debates, workshops and community events across the region.

“Digital infrastructure has become fundamental to almost every part of modern society, but it remains largely invisible to most people. Nordic Data Center Week is an invitation to look behind the services we use every day and have an open conversation about the infrastructure, energy, skills and local partnerships they require,” says Merima Dzanic, Head of Strategy & Operations at the Danish Data Center Industry.

A Nordic initiative with a local focus

As the demand for cloud services, AI and secure digital capacity grows across the Nordics, local communities are raising questions about energy, local impact, skills and the role the Nordic countries should play in Europe’s digital future.

These questions cannot be discussed by the industry alone. Nordic Data Center Week therefore the conversation into the communities where data centers operate and where new projects are being considered.

The 2026 program will cover topics including energy and the green transition, AI and digital sovereignty, future skills and employment, local value creation and critical infrastructure.

Nordic Data Center Week across Denmark

In Denmark, activities will take place across the country, including Esbjerg, Fredericia and Copenhagen, bringing the conversation about digital infrastructure to school pupils, students, businesses, policymakers and local communities.

The Danish program will explore how growing demand for AI and digital services connects with energy, education, employment and local development. Several activities will also give young people an opportunity to learn about the digital services they use every day and explore career opportunities in the industry.

Activities include:

• School visits in Esbjerg and Fredericia: Pupils in years 5–7 will learn how data centers work, what lies behind the internet and which skills and careers the industry needs.
• Digital and green growth in Esbjerg: Businesses, industry representatives and local stakeholders will meet for discussions about Western Jutland’s role in the development of Denmark’s digital and energy infrastructure.
• Fredericia Talks: Companies, decision-makers and experts will discuss whether Denmark’s energy systems, infrastructure and skills can keep pace with its ambitions for AI and the green transition.
• Careers and future skills: Data center companies will meet students and graduates at Career Fairs to discuss emerging roles and skills needs across data centers, energy, AI and technology.

The Danish program is organized with contributions from data center operators, companies, municipalities and educational institutions. Additional activities will be announced ahead of Nordic Data Center Week.

About Nordic Data Center Week

Nordic Data Center Week is a joint initiative from the Danish Data Center Industry, Finnish Data Center Association, Data Centers by Iceland, Norwegian Data Center Industry and Swedish Data Center Industry Association.

The initiative brings the industry together with schools, students, politicians, local communities and the wider public to create greater understanding of data centers and their role in society.

Nordic Data Center Week 2026 takes place from 21–25 September in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
